![]() ![]() For the purposes of this book…we will ONLY be working with MAJOR pentatonic scales. 3 Pentatonic Scale: A pentatonic scale is a five-note scale. *All examples in this book are in TREBLE clef. I have also included some pentatonic patterns to spark your creativity in producing your own improvisational ideas. This book will teach how to form a pentatonic scale and how to use them. In addition to pentatonic scales, I’ve also included the way that I apply triad pairs (two separate sets of triads) to the same three main tonalities above. The goal is to explain ideas and concepts in the simplest way possible. The intent is to not overcomplicate the learning process with the use obscure jargon. This book assumes the reader has a basic grasp of jazz theory. 11 2 Overview/Preface: This book was written to answer the question of how to use pentatonic scales (five note scales) over three main tonalities: Major, Minor, and Dominant. 7 Applying Pentatonic Scales over a ii – V – I progression.
